Is anyone seeing any problems with these “Blue” Western Digital drives with the Drobo?
I’ve used Exclusively Western Digital drives for years now without problems like this. Since receiving my Drobo last month, I’ve been unable to really start using it because I’ve had 4 bad drives fail almost immediately.
These were 4 Western Digital Caviar drives ordered through Newegg, and each one was either reported as Failed immediately or within a week of putting it into the USB 3 Drobo S. I’ve taken them out of the Drobo after this, and run them through WD’s diagnostics tool which shows SMART failure related to the re-allocated sector count.
Is/has anyone else seen such behavior?
4 drives in a row sounds aweful suspicious. I’m a little nervous to actually start using the Drobo over my current RAID setup
I initially ordered 3. They arrived in the same box, yes.
One drive failed immediately and I returned to Newegg. The replacement they sent, died within minutes of putting in.
Another of the original batch had to go to WD for RMA because it was day 32 of the Newegg warranty. They returned me a “Black” drive which has been in the Drobo for 2 days now.
Almost immediately after putting that “Black” drive in, the final original “Blue” drive reported failure. It is now boxed up and ready to be sent in to WD.
I was chalking it up to poor shipment handling, but I’m getting a little gun-shy about feeding this thing more drives.
Yep, the 1TB model :([hr]
Well 30 seconds ago I received the UPS tracking number for my most recent Newegg replacement drive. Here’s to hoping it works![hr]
