Volumes on specific drives

I’m looking to pick up a Drobo 5D, but have one question. I have 3 Western Digital Black HHDs, and 2 Crucial M4 512GB SSDs. I would like to put them all in the Drobo, but would like to use the SSDs for my virtual machines, and the HHDs for plain data storage.

Is this even possible? From what I’ve read it looks like the drobo can only use all the drives for a single pool, it can’t say “This volume on these drives, this volume on those drives.” Is that correct?

you are correct, drobo only supports a single “disk pack” (in Drobo terminology), and you cannot specify that some of the pack is reserved for certain volumes.

to accomplish what you want, you would need to buy two Drobos, one for SSDs one of HDDs
