Drobo

Volume Sizes

Hi all,

I am just about to upgrade 2 x 1st Gen Drobo’s to a DroboPro and have a quick question.

If I format the DroboPro as 16TB, as I start to fill the space and add drives (to expand 1 volume) do I need a specific version of Windows for this? I am currently running on a Mac Mini with the two 1st Gen Drobos but may want to go across to PC for the new system. Will I need a 64bit system and Windows?

Thanks,

Andy

No.

32-bit Vista supports 16TB volumes, and certainly Windows 7 will.

Yes, you need Vista, Windows 7 or Windows Server 2K/2K3/2K8 in order access any volume > 2TB < 16TB. 32-bit or 64-bit will only make a difference in memory alloation but the NTFS for XP Home/Pro and all Windows prior to Vista have a 2TB limit. I have our Drobo units connected to Vista, Win7, Windows Servers, both 32-bit 64-bit and they work fine. Still awaiting for my droboPro to arrive!

Thank you both. That is good to know.
