Mac Data Rescue 4 cloning a drive
The demo of Data Rescue 4 is free and you do not need to purchase it to do the clone.

[]Once downloaded, double click Data Rescue 4.dmg file and install the application.
[]Launch Data Rescue 4 from your Application / Launchpad folder and choose demo.

Clone Steps:

[]Click Start Recovering Files
[]Select your Source Drive (this is the drive the Tech asked you clone) to clone then click Next.
[]Select Clone then Continue.

[]Select the Clone Target Drive that you want to use.
[]Read the warning message before clicking continue.
(This is the drive you may have purchased or have on hand and should not contain important data on it.
This drive will be overwritten by the source drive permanently)

If the clone attempt fails because of slow reads or errors you can try the reverse clone option.
Cloning hardware that may be needed:
In many cases you may need to purchase a Dual 2.5"/3.5" USB SATA Hard Drive Docking Station to connect two drives at once via USB. If you have a MacPro you may be able to install the source and target drives if you have available bays. (Make sure your docking station supports your size of HD if purchasing one)
Drives to use for cloning:
When cloning a drive for a Drobo you will need to use the same size capacity in all cases. ( You don’t have to order the same model or brand) When cloning 4K sector drives, you do need to match these drives identically in size and like models for best results.

Cloning to a same sized hard drive with DR4 and getting an error that the target drive is slightly smaller.
In Data Rescue 4 when on the source page go to the menu bar and select Data Rescue 4 then choose preferences. In the preferences window on the general tab click on the box next to Enable Expert Features then close out preferences.
Now in the DR4 source window choose the source drive by highlighting it, then right click on the drive and select “Set Volume Parameters” .
To set the Volume Parameters, in the “Display Format” window change it to decimal from hexadecimal. In the Scan End window change the Byte# to smaller than the target drive, e.g 1,000,000,000,000 to 998,000,000,000 . then choose Set on the bottom. This will change the size of the volume. DR4 should say checking drives. Then choose the drive and hit next then select the destination drive and start the clone.
