I have a Drobo S. Currently it’s maxed out and almost at the top of it’s 16TB limit with four 4TB drives and a 6TB drive.
Drive details:
- 1x Seagate Desktop HDD 6TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 128MB Cache 3.5-Inch
- 4x Seagate Desktop HDD 4 TB SATA 6Gb/s NCQ 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch
I much prefer to utilize dual-Disk redundancy, but as I have over 12TB of used space at this point, that’s getting difficult to do with only 5 drive bays.
The Drobo S is formated as HFS+ and we use the system for supporting video and image files to the application Kodi (XBMC), currently hooked up to an iMac through Firewire.
Everything works fine, speeds operate just fine… I’m just running out of space.
I’m looking to either buy a second Drobo, or preferably get one of the 8 drive units. If I upgraded to one of the 8-drive units… should I be able to just slide in my HDD’s from the Drobo S or would I lose my data?
Any opinions?
