Yesterday I was checking my backups to my Drobo (B800fs) when I noticed that they had failed due to not enough diskspace. Upon further investigation, I also noticed that there was still 5.11TB left of the 21.09TB. I then attempted to manually copy a file into one of the shares on my Drobo, but received a write error. So I restarted the Drobo and tried copying a file into the shares again with no luck and received the same write error. I then upgraded the Drobo Dashboard and verified that it had the current firmware; I restarted the Drobo again and even reapplied the firmware with no luck. After the 3rd restart, I noticed that my shares had disappeared; the only share that was visible was Public. Also, all my user accounts were gone. I checked the capacity section and nothing had changed. It still had 5.11TB of free space left out of 21.TB How do I get my shares back? Direct connection using a USB cable did not work; neither did a direct connection using an Ethernet cable. Is there anyway to get my shares back?
hi ranel,
for the current shares issue, are you able to detect any fairly constant activity taking place on the drobo (either from the activity lights, or even just the sounds or vibrations of the drobo unit and drives) there may be a chance that the new firmware is optimising existing data and that things may resume and share become available again afterwards?
for the initial issue, is it that your drobo overall, has about 21TB of space, with about 5TB remaining, but that the shares are actually having different maximum sizes? (for example, if you have backups on a particular share, is it possible that that actual share had low space remaining on it, even if the overall drobo had much more free?
thanks for the info,
can i check what does that share show you in terms of its currently free space, and maximum space? for example from the computer (not dashboard)?
another thing that may have happened initially, was another process might have actually used up the space temporarily, causing the backup process you mentioned above, to fail? (am not sure how many backups you have or which computers you have, but there was another user who mentioned they were able to connect to a share in a different manual way that may help?)
Unfortunately, since the shares disappeared, I cannot map it to a drive letter and check to see how much free space is left from the computer side. I have 3 backups from 3 servers copying data to the Drobo, none of which have been working since last week because it said there was not enough room.
thanks ranel, do you know if the free space is sort of matching with what the front of the main drobo unit is showing?
for example, how many blue led lights are lit up there?
aside from trying to power off all connected computers/devices, and the drobo and waiting for 10minutes before powering up just 1 main computer and the drobo as a test,
then it might also be worth creating a ticket for the support team, to see if they can spot and help address things further, (especially if you are still in support), though there should still be a way to create a pay-per-incident ticket too in case not, if you would wish)
