I have copied my Photographic images together with my Lightroom catalogue to Drobo.
I work on my images perhaps every two or three days for 3-4 hours at a time, shutting down my computer (Widows XP Home) in between.
What would be recommended for power to the Drobo in these circumstances? Should it be left on continuously, switched to standby or shutdown completely? I am wanting to conserve energy but also wanting to optimise the Drobo performance and conserve the life of my Drobo.
Many thanks
I’d recommend keeping it on all the time other than you’re not around for some longer time like holidays or something. It’s really designed to work like that and it manages its current draw by itself, by spinning the drives down after some 15 minutes of inactivity and going standby soon after your host computer does. However, there is some glitch in the latest version of the Drobo Dashboard application which could (I haven’t tested this with XP) prevent the drives from spinning down (you may want to have a look at my http://www.drobospace.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=497 thread) but I’m sure they’ll correct it soon.

Thanks, Zbig. I now see that the Drobo has gone into standby after shutting down the PC as you stated. There is no activity so I guess power consumption is minimal, and so I will leave it permanently in this state.
Thanks again
