Pogoplug drive hangs Dashboard

This is my setup:

Drobo 2nd gen connected via USB to Mac running 10.6.4. Dashboard is v 1.7.3.

I also have a pogoplug connected, running v2.1.2.

If I have a pogoplug drive mounted on my desktop, and launch the drobo dashboard, the dashboard just hangs at the 'Ready for Connection" screen.

If I look at my console, i see:

9/1/10 9:34:32 PM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.datarobotics.ddserviced[782]) Job appears to have crashed: Bus error
9/1/10 9:34:32 PM com.apple.ReportCrash.Root[775] 2010-09-01 21:34:32.281 ReportCrash[775:4e3f] Saved crash report for DDServiced[782] version ??? (???) to /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/DDServiced_2010-09-01-213432_localhost.crash

This repeats ever 10s.

I also see this scattered in there:

9/1/10 9:36:55 PM fseventsd[41] scan_old: bailing out because device mounted @ /Volumes/Pogoplug has dls 0x0 and dls->fci 0x0

However, if I unmount the pogoplug disk (still have the pogoplug app running), and run the dashboard, it works.

Anyone else seeing this?

I see something like this too now.

Just got a pink Pogoplug, and am setting it up to test if I can use it as a “Droboshare” replacement. I installed the 2.1.2 Pogoplug software a couple of days ago.

I just noticed today that the Dashboard menu item had changed to a circle with a line through it, and Dashboard (1.7.3) said no Drobos were detected. If I try to relaunch Dashboard I get a message that says something like “A critical part of Dashboard is not running. Please relaunch Dashboard to fix that.” I did that, and it didn’t fix it.

I’m on OS X 10.6.4 as well, with a Drobo V1.

Update to Pogoplug 2.5.5

I’m running that version with my Drobo (2nd Gen) with no issues. (OS X 10.6.5)

Drobo units will not connect to Dashboard through a 3rd party device, if you are not using an Ethernet connection.

I know that. I had the Drobo directly connected via USB. All I was trying to do was run Dashboard and the Pogoplug software on the same Mac.

The incompatibility between Drobo Dashboard and PogoPlug is a known issue. It has been reported to DataRobotics Support, who has investigated and responded that it will be fixed in Dashboard 2.0, but there is as yet no release date for the new version. In the meantime, you can roll back to Dashboard 1.6.8, which co-exists nicely with PogoPlug (see the PogoPlug forum at http://www.pogoplugged.com/forum/thread/14499/Pogoplug-hangs-Drobo-Dashboard/?src=thread_sub#13186

All - yes, 1.6.8 Dashboard is the only version that works. I have tried every other version of Dashboard on 4 different Macs and they all fail.

I gave up on Drobo Support many months ago and just use this workaround until they get around to releasing a version that works (thanks to Peter O for confirming upcoming version 2.0.0 of Drobo Dashboard may fix the problem)
