PogoPlug Cloud for DroboFS - needs a computer running 24x7?

So to much fanfare DRI’s latest Cloud solution has been announced:

http://www.theverge.com/apps/2011/11/21/2577169/drobo-free-pogoplug-software-cloud-accounts
http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/21/dnp-pogoplug-lets-drobo-into-its-cloud-offers-10gb-of-public/

Great, so we finally get 10GB (better than nothing) of cloud backup and storage, we can stream content, access data away from home… but what the hell is with needing a computer running 24x7 to do it? So their big promotion is nothing more than “can share a mounted folder”? BFD.

Yeah, I did think it was strange that the Drobo page says

when actually it doesn’t do that. (Or at least the docs make no mention of it, I’m not near my Drobo atm, so can’t actually check)

Especially with mention of the FS on the page too.

I got all excited about this annoucement, until you read that you need the drobo AND a computer running!!!

Seems pretty much a pointless application as one of the reasons I bought a NAS was so that I didnt have to have a computer running all the time[hr]
