There is constant "noise from my 5D. i have 4 4TB WD Black drives. it sounds like the drives are always churning or spinning ir running. is this normal? is it safe to turn it off?
I think noisy is kind of… relative. If you are in a quiet room, you could likely hear the noise that is produced by the Drobo unit…
You could set the drives to spindown, and it will do so when there are no activity.
- Drobo Dashboard > Drobo Settings… > Disk Drive Spindown
You could shutdown the unit when not in use. - Drobo Dashboard > Tools > Shutdown
In any case, I think, unless its too loud and it doesn’t sound like fan blades hitting loose wiring, it should be fine.
