Many, many small files will gain noticeable Read/Write performance. Besides, there are only 2-3 vendors to choose from, Crucial, Kingston & OCZ - all non-Sandforce controller model & they are relatively expensive compared to SSD. I vote against it.

btw if anyone is about to install an msata… can you try a few tests before and after installing?
find a folder on your drobo system that contains a lot files/folders (ideally on a windows machine)
& rightclick and select a “properties” on it.
and see how long it takes to populate/calculate the file and size counts.
and then to try the same after an msata, (and probably a reboot to clear any windows cache etc)

(my gen 2 mirror, seems to be able to calculate the same values much quicker than the gen 1, at least 3 times as quickly, so i was wondering of an msata can help one of the newer drobo models in that way too?)

I’m not sure where to post feature requests, but I’d love a parameter in Dashboard to ‘pass through’ files, file sizes or whole directories from ever touching the mSATA card.
Since it appears the standard Data Tiering feature is h3ll on SSD’s, it would be nice to exempt files/directories that I know don’t need the acceleration feature.

thats not a bad idea mgriffin,
its kind of the reverse of what i suggested a while back about being able to specify specific folders for inclusion, but could be useful too 
currently the acceleration feature seems geared towards a fully automatic approach, eg add the card and that’s it, (fire&forget), but there could be benefits to having a more manual control over what uses it

Yes, but couldn’t this be implemented more like a “block hit” (block “popularity”) counters / statistics? Of course that’s just a wild guess and it’s more than likely that I’m seriously oversimplifying this.
i wouldn’t account that as “data aware” tho - you can monitor and come up with statistics, but still without knowing anything about the underlying data, i wouldn’t class that as being data aware
