Is Drobo 4 Bay 2nd Gen max HD size 6Tb ?

Hi all !

I have a 4 Bay Drobo (2nd Gen) with USB 2 & Firewire 800 ports.

Is this 4 Bay (2nd Gen) compatible with 6Tb HDD or do i have to upgrade to the 4 Bay (3rd Gen ) with USB 3 ?

Is USB 3 any faster than Firewire 800 ?

Are any HDD makes more compatible with my Drobo 4 Bay (2nd Gen) than others ?

The answers to your questions as follows:

  1. Your current 4 bay Gen 2 model may not be compatible with 6 TB drives, I’m not entirely sure. In any case, it doesn’t make sense to have 4 * 6 TB drives inserted as the storage pool for this model is capped at 16 TB, additional space cannot be utilized.

  2. Yes.

  3. All 4 TB SATA drives should still be compatible with this model.
