Fully loaded Drobo 5D-Advice

Apologies if this is in the wrong place or has been asked before, I’m a Drobo / RAID novice of the worst kind and the past few hours internet research has left me with more questions than answers.

Basically, I want to purchase a Drobo 5D and fill it with the most amount of storage possible. I’ve read that i can add an mSATA SSD to make everything run faster and leave more room for storage capacity.

My question is, what’s the maximum capacity of drive i can put in the Drobo 5D (I’m looking at these specifically: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-Internal-Desktop-Attached/dp/B00LO3KR96/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1408362321&sr=1-1&keywords=wd+red+6tb) and do I need a minimum capacity SSD like 120gb, or does making the SSD have more capacity add anything to the set up.

Basically, I want the best drives, the biggest drives, the fastest setup.

So, not much to ask for…ha.

Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated as the amount of tabs i currently have open with pages and pages of info that might as well be in Swahili is mind melting.

Kind regards

Steph

Fastest setup? Go full SSD (most expensive and least capacity)

Best drives? SSD?

Biggest Drives? yup… 6TB is the way to go. But I’m not sure if they have fully been tested on Drobo5D.

mSATA, yup, should help accelerate frequently accessed data.

Hi Sebastian

Thanks for the reply. Hmmm, I’ve been having trouble finding info on whether 6TB drives are supported also.
Thanks for the other info though, much appreciated.

Steph

I have a Drobo 5N that I slotted a Seagate 6TB drive into 3 days ago… Drobo reads it, seems to be working well on the dashboard and have not had any issues in trafficking data to and from the Drobo… 6TB seems to be ready to go!
