I read a thread here that says this may not be possible?
Why do I want to do this? Well, because I have both Macs and PCs. FAT32 doesn’t support big enough files. NFTS can’t be written to by Mac, and Mac Filesystems can’t be written to by PCs.
No Drobo (all model including older 1st gen) does not support exFat filesystem.
If you need to connect your 1st Gen Drobo to a Mac and also a PC. I would recommend you to fork out a small amount and purchase 3rd party NTFS driver for Mac OSX.
With this NTFS driver installed in an Mac OSX, OSX will then be able to natively read/write any NTFS formatted HDD/Drive. This will include your 1st Gen Drobo formatted as NTFS and also any other external USB storage from say (WD etc…) that is NTFS formatted.
With this NTFS driver in OSX, it support large file size as well like as if you are on a PC…

Have you considered connecting the Drobo directly to one computer on a permanent basis and sharing it over the network to the others? It would be available to all of them simultaneously as long as the machine hosting it remains powered and it would avoid having to unplug it from one and plug it into another.
