I have a brand new 3rd Gen Drobo (4-Bay) connected via USB 2 to a 2009 Mac Mini. I’ve been using it about a week now without issue but then last night I discovered that one of the disks had Failed. (Fair enough it was a nearly 4 year old disk)
I quickly installed a new disk, waited till the rebuild process was underway and then went to bed. This morning I found a bunch of notifications on the screensaver Login screen from Finder about the disk not being properly unmounted before disconnect. There were also 5 notifications from the Drobo telling me that “Data Protection in Progress” matching the times that Drobo had remounted.
Looking at the logs it appears that the Drobo was unmounted 8 times (none now since the last one)
Each time it remounted 2 or 3 minutes later.
I’ve not come across this before on my old 2nd Gen Drobo. I don’t know if the Drobo rebooted itself as I wasn’t in the room, it certainly hasn’t done so while I’ve been in the room for the last 100 minutes of the rebuild which has just finished.
Any thoughts on what happened? I’ve contacted support as well, but I thought I’d ask here if others have seen this happening.
