Drobo never initializes

I just got my Drobo 5N last night and put two 2TB drives into the first two bays to start off. Drobo dashboard says that it’s starting up and should just be a few minutes. I went out for the evening and when I came back all the lights were still red and it was still initializing. Could my drives be incompatible? They are WD SE NAS-grade drives.

The drives should be compatible

When i got my 5N i had issues initializing it but i just reset it and started over

it still takes what seems like an eternity to initialize (probably 30-45 minutes, maybe a little more)

I should add that I put in an mSATA SSD right away before the first bootup as well. It’s showing up as in good health in the Dashboard, although not in use at this time.

Are you saying it will take 30-45 minutes to start every time, or only to format the drives the first time?

UPDATE: I just did a reset and everything is working fine. Strange!

having this issue too, running OSX 10.8.5…kind of a foreboding start to my new back-up solution… going to wait a bit before trying a restart.

edit: restart didn’t work, had to follow these instructions (vis-a-vis drobo support): http://support.drobo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/683/kw/5N
