Drobo Gen 3 - copy Time Machine backup from other drive

Hi all,

I am wondering if it is possible to successfully copy an existing Time Machine backup to the new 3rd generation Drobo. I want to keep the Time Machine history I have from the last 4 years of backups.

I tried using the recommended steps from Apple, but this resulted in multiple errors:

“The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items”

and

“The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8062)”

Has anyone done this successfully?

hi david, i dont have a mac, but noticed something on the thread over at apple which may help:

if you havent done it before though, then it might be best to raise a support ticket with apple to make sure you’re happy with the process.

from a drobo perspective, the only main problem i know about, is when (or if) the time machine backups try to eat up more space then the drobo has overall. (its also depending on how big your backups are, and how much space your drobo has (total and usable), and whether timemachine can control how big the backup file gets)
