Drobo Gen 3 (4bay) USB issues

My Drobo Gen 3 won’t mount on USB 3.0 ports using the accompanying USB 2.0 cable.
Is this normal behaviour? The manual says that it should be able to automatically adjust, however, it has never been able to use a 3.0 port from day 1 (using this cable. I do not own a usb 3 cable).

I have been using the Drobo Gen 3 since 2014. I have now upgraded PCs (Windows 10) and it has only USB 3 ports (type A and type C). My Drobo is not usable as is. Can I bring it back to life if I purchase a USB 3 cable, or is it more likely that there is a hardware problem on the Drobo itself?

Any thoughts?
