Drobo Dashboard Drive Health says "failed," while Data Protection is in progress

I swapped out a Samsung EVO 850 500GB drive for a SK hynix Gold SSD 1TB drive in my Drobo Mini. Observing the Drobo Dashboard, it indicates that Data Protection is in progress (approximately 3 hours remaining) yet it also indicates that the Health of this new drive is Failed in bold red. Which is it? I would think if the dashboard says that “Data Protection is in progress,” the Drive Information Health window would be consistent with this and state something like “Updating.” Or is it a failed drive and the 3-hour wait is an illusion?
