Drobo 5D stuck in Data Protection/reboot cycle

I have two Drobo 5Ds. There was a power outage and one of them has been working fine, the other is stuck in a Data Protection/reboot cycle:

  1. I turn the Drobo on
  2. Once it boots up, it starts Data Protection. Drives 0, 1, and 3 are listed as Healthy; drives 2 and 4 say “Healed”
  3. The Capacity section of Drobo Dashboard says 7% of the space is used. This slowly climbs up to 11% as Data Protection does its work.
  4. The Drobo restarts itself around the time the Capacity reaches 11% used
  5. Back to step 2

I tried moving the 5 drives from the “bad” Drobo 5D to the “good” Drobo 5D and see the same behavior there, so I think it’s the disk pack and not the Drobo that’s the problem.

The logs say that the Drobo felt compelled to power cycle the drive in Bay 4, and then to reboot itself.

Is there anything I can do? Thanks!

Based on what you have said, if you have your ‘bad array’ in the ‘good Drobo’ and only drive 4 is playing up, then replace drive 4 with a equal to or larger new HDD whilst in your ‘good Drobo’ and let it become part of the modified new array. Then move the new array to the ‘bad Drobo’ and let us know if your issue is solved?

Have you tried your ‘good array’ from the ‘good Drobo’ in your ‘bad Drobo’? Any issues?

I tried replacing the drive in bay 4 (6TB) with a new 8TB drive. All 5 lights turned red and Drobo Dashboard told me that too many drives had been removed and that I needed to put the old drive back in.
I haven’t tried the “good array” in the “bad Drobo” yet, but I can give that a try later.

If you do not yet have a backup of your bad array, are you able to make one now?
With that in hand a full reformat may be a final solution.

I don’t have a backup yet and I don’t think I can make one because the volume only stays mounted for a few minutes at a time before the Drobo reboots itself.
