Drobo

Drobo 5D, reproducable horror on replacing drives

Drobo is 5D, latest dashboard, latest firmware as of today, drives are brand new WD 4TB NAS.

My Example:
I load the Drobo with 3 drives, format via drobo and have 7 TB of writable space available… So far so good.

Now I copy 30 GB of QuickTimeMovies onto the drive, these are around 60 files…

In the next step (all lights on the drobo are solid green) I simulate a failed drive and take out the 3rd of the 3 drives. Drobo dashboard brings up an alert, “drive has failed or replaced and it will for safety manage the data to the remaining 2 drives…”
(I get the alert in german, so excuse the wording, you know what I mean.

Than the horror begins.
The Drobo starts blinking yellow and green…
and than after a while (maybe 20 minutes) It shuts down and reboots itself… and it does this afterwards in 5 Minutes intervalls, the whole day, until I plug the cord…

I mean is this normal?

  1. The data for this test are minimal…
  2. Drobo should be ready with the two drives in minutes, maybe 30 minutes…
  3. It does not help adding new drives in bay 4 or 5…
  4. Basically the Drobo kills itself…

Hmm, any Idea on this? Yes, it is reproduceable!
