Drives Won't Mount

I submitted the below to Drobo Support, and the responded saying my unit was EOL and to post my question here, or buy a new Drobo. (With a response like that, I will NEVER buy a new Drobo). I already looked at the k-base articles regarding drives won’t mount.

Problem:
Last night I started a large data transfer to my FireWire-attached Drobo.

This morning, there was a Finder error (stating that the copy couldn’t complete because the drive couldn’t be found) and the Drobo was no longer mounted.

I tried power cycling the Drobo and rebooting the computer, but it still isn’t mounting.

I followed the KB articles regarding Drobo rebooting, including removing the drives and getting the diagnostics.

The Light Sequences are:
All lights on
Drive bay orange
for about 5 secs

All lights on
Drive bay orange
power light goes off
for about 5 secs

All lights on
Drive bay orange
power light solid green
for about 5 secs

all lights off
power solid green
for about 15 secs

blue lights climb
no power light

top 3 and #7 blue
power flashing green

another blue climb sequence

top 3 and #5 blue

top 4 and #8 blue
power flashing green
for about 15 secs

top 4 and #6 blue
power flashing green
for about 15 secs

reboot

Suggestions?

Have U tried a pinhole reset? Make sure to power down the Drobo, take out all the drives b/f performing a pinhole reset. The reset works for me many times.

Thanks for the suggestion — I din’t know about the pinhole reset.
Unfortunately, that didn’t work.

I’m sorry your going through it too. My Drobo S went down earlier this week b/c of the same issue and I still have not fixed it yet. I have spoken to Apple/Drobo and they tried everything :

-reboot both imac and drobo s

  • uninstall dashboard software/ reinstall dashboard software (we even put a old dashboard on to see if it would work, nothing)
  • we tried to do the verify/repair disk but it didn’t work (why you ask, it’s b/c the drobo is not mounted)
-Apple suggested let the FSCK on Activity Miontor run and see if it works (it did work however the drobo became “read only”
  • I have even tried to run a third party software like Disk Warrior and Data Rescue 3…(Disk Warrior can’t do anything b/c it’s not mounted and Data Rescue 3 said "the directory can not be rebuilt b/c there is not enough memory error code 2154…it said to reboot it but NOW the drobo is no longer mounted.
-At this point I have no idea what to do??? I will continue to follow this to see if anyone with the same problem is able to help us fix it. Drobo told me to buy another Drobo so that I could then have the warranty and they will help me fix it. Crazy…
-the issue is “File System Corruption”

Best Regards,

Rafael
