Hello,
Just updated my Mac to El Capitan OS 10.11.5
Drobo is a 2nd gen 4 drive firewire
all lights are green
Drobo icon on desk top is “yellow” not black
I can open drive and see my files
Dashboard 1.7.2 will not connect to drobo !!!
haven’t had any problems since 2010 with running on upgraded operating systems.
already ran first aid
drobo web site is not helpful with what to do ??
It appears that there is a new dashboard 2.6.7 , however does this dashboard run a 2nd gen drobo?? and will it run on my Mac El Capitan OS 10.11.5 ???
Looking for any recommendations advice on what to do next
thank you much
Mark
hi mark, would you be able to try hooking up the gen2 via usb if you can, just to see if it makes a difference (using your current 1.7.2 of dashboard?)

Hello
Similar to mkwilhite, since upgrading to El Capitan 10.11.5, Dashboard version 2.5.2 is no longer recognising Drobo, though finder still able to access and use.
The black drobo symbol in finder has turned yellow like an external drive.
When previously contacting support before making OS updates they advised to stick with Dashboard version 2.5.2 , so unsure if i should try a future Dashboard version or not.
Would ideally like this resolved as I can sleep better at night knowing i shut Drobo down using Dashboard rather than ejecting when shutting Mac down.
Having the same problem with Dashboard 2.6.10 which according to http://www.drobo.com/drobo-downloads-2/ is the latest version that supports Gen 2. Using an Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter.
hi, for davisphotographypaul,
can i check if you actually had the drobo connected to the computer, during the upgrade into el capitan?
(usually some problems can happen if upgrading while the drobo is already in use and connected, as mentioned in a knowledgebase article, though in your case if sounds as though the data is still actually accessible, which is good so it may not be that)
what you could try is to also try uninstalling and reinstalling the same dashboard version (just in case its required) and then to recheck the firewall / permission settings in case they need permissions set again?
for mcamou,
can i check what has changed since it last worked fine for you? (for example did you also happen to just recently upgrade into elcapitan, and then only dashboard can no longer recognise the drobo?)
also, what happens if you try using just a direct firewire (or ideally a direct usb connection to the mac, if possible) - does anything change?
As my upgrade to El Capitan took place overnight I had my Drobo tucked away safely in the safe.
I have just tried uninstalling and reinstalling the same dashboard version, though again ‘no drobos found’. I did get this message when re-booting with Drobo attached -
A REQUIRED PORTION OF DROBO DASHBOARD IS NO LONGER RUNNING. PLEASE RELAUNCH DROBO DASHBOARD TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. IF PROBLEM PERSISTS, THEN RE-INSTALL DROBO DASHBOARD. YOU CAN GET THE LATEST VERSION BLAH BLAH BLAH
My macs firewall has been turned off for quite some time so doubtful thats causing the issue… any other ideas? Anyone?
Many thanks meantime.
ps One of my drive lights has just turned orange and will need replaced soon, do you know if thats possible without Dashboard? I hope so!
I would recommend downloading the Drobo Dashboard from the Drobo Website and performing a new installation.
I have received this error message on and off over the years with Drobo Dashboard upgrades, especially those triggered via the existing Drobo Dashboard check.
The solution has always been to simply shutdown the Drobo/s, Reinstall and then turn the Drobo/s back on.
hi, if you can try what michael mentioned, hopefully that can work for you (thanks michael)
changing a drive of a drobo in a good stable working state (without any lights flashing) should be ok without using dashboard, though you would not get any of the benefits such as information about drives or the estimated time remaining.
you could look at the front of the main unit for the lights though, and a rebuild will usually take about 1day per 1TB of data that you have on it, approximately, though if you can please try to wait a bit to try some more dashboard reinstalls, but if you can try USB first, does that help?[hr]

Hi Paul,
Thought I’d chime in here as I am having the same issue with the Dashboard. Fortunately even without Dashboard all my Drobo drives are accessible from Finder. The only time you’ll need to eject the drives manually is when you are doing a hard reset, and this is only as a safe precaution. I have done hard resets without doing a manual eject and everything worked fine but I think it is much better for the drives if you manually eject before shutting down or doing a restart - again just to be safe - drives aren’t cheap!
Also, all the drives are hot swappable so you can replace them without the Dashboard, I’ve done it and it works fine.
Thanks for the help and feedback everyone and sorry for delay, wedding season! I installed dashboard version 2.6.4 and thankfuly everything seems back to normal. The only issue seems to be the little blue lights on device - only once since updating have all the lights lit accordingly ( on dashboard more are lit ) , the rest of the time just the first blue light appears lit. Dashboard is now prompting me to upgrade to version 2.8.1, perhaps I should give it whirl?
Great news about the swapping of drives without needing Dashboard! Just to clarify in case this arrises again, I can just eject the drive that needs replacing? And this is performed with Drobo on and Mac running? I don’t seem to have the same set up as Thayne quote “Fortunately even without Dashboard all my Drobo drives are accessible from Finder” In my finder Drobo appears as one single drive, from Thaynes description it sounded like your appears as 4 bays? Maybe i picked you up wrong.
Anyways thanks again everyone! Oh, all of the above using a firewire connection.

Yes. Drobo will handle this, whether connected to your Mac or not. Drobo Dashboard gives control over more advanced features and it also lets you view more details than the front lights indicate. Always always keep Drobo on when you replace a failed drive. It needs to track your actions to understand what to do. You do not want Drobo to be uncertain which drives to keep and which to erase, because you shut it down and then surprised it.
Good catch. Drobo gives you virtual drives and not the real metal drives. Otherwise, how could it keep all your data after a physical drive failed? Most people have 1 virtual drive. Thaynes might have several virtual drives (my Drobo has 3).
