Drobo

CrashPlan Drobo App

CrashPlan, a service that allows users to backup their data, locally, remote and on the cloud is now available as a Drobo App for the Drobo 5N.

This App is a port of the headless agent that the folks over at Code42 have released, which today is listed as version 3.5.3.

Please note that the installation and configuration of this App requires a high level of knowledge using SSH and a command line interpreter. It is therefore recommended that if a simple to use cloud based backup solutions is desired, that the Drobo Apps Copy and/or ElephantDrive, be used instead.

Before installing the CrashPlan App within Drobo Dashboard the following Apps must be installed, failing to do so will prevent the CrashPlan service from starting:

(Dropbear SSH)
This Drobo App is a requirement during the final steps of the configuration. Nevertheless, installing it before any other App can help you diagnose issues and or facilitate the installation of the core dependencies.

(Java)
This is a core dependency, the CrashPlan Drobo App will fail to start if this is not found.

http://files.drobo.com/droboapps/java7.tgz

(Locale)
This is a core dependency, the CrashPlan Drobo App will fail to start if this is not found.

http://files.drobo.com/droboapps/locale.tgz

For more information on how to manually install a Drobo App, please read the instructions at the following link

http://www.drobospace.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=141632

Once you have the above requirements met, you should be able to click the Install button within Drobo Dashboard and within 1 minute or two, it should display a running status.

The next step is to configure the CrashPlan client, which is installed on the desktop host. Then point the client App to the service running on the Drobo 5N. This is very well documented at the following link

http://support.code42.com/CrashPlan/Latest/Configuring/Configuring_A_Headless_Client

Because this is a community supported App, this thread should be used to provide feedback and any improvements.

NOTE: Agent updates in the CrashPlan Drobo App are disabled, as Code42 releases newer builds, we will continue to update the Drobo App.

I followed all the instructions and successfully got the Crashplan App installed on my 5N. However, the app keeps stopping itself within a couple seconds of starting. Any suggestions?

hi markus, have a look here on this whole thread in case it helps:
http://www.drobospace.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=141817&page=2
(there have been some recent changes)

Soo…where are those updates? 3.6.4 released and all the Drobo’s not backing up anymore… I know it’s code42’s problem with the automatic updates…but its kinda annoying here at the shallow end…

See here for the new version: http://www.drobospace.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=142662

See here for version 3.7.0: http://www.drobospace.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=143152

I am having problems with mine to. I followed all of the above steps, completely deleted my old install including temp directories. After re-installing it ran the first backup just fine. I checked it this morning and the app is no longer running.

This is really frustrating!

We can’t help you if you don’t post the log files from /tmp/DroboApps/crashplan (install.log and log.txt).

Try using “Ahsay software” using it from long time. leaving a link below just have a look at the software. it can give backup and helps restoring too. http://www.ahsay.com/jsp/en/home/index.jsp?pageContentKey=ahsay_products_overview

I just purchased a Dorbo 5N to replace my aging Drobo DAS. I have been using CrashPlan and would like to configure the headless client on the 5N, unfortunately, there are quite a bit of threads, most of which are from 2013…

Can someone please point me to the updated instruction on how to configure the CrashPlan client on the 5N?

Thanks in advance…

kuler789,

I visited Ahsay’s website and was left a little confused as to what product i would require to back-up my 5N to a drive at my friends home (off-site backup). Could you please elaborate on how you use Ahsay and there components that make it work?

Thx

Are there any problems with large backups? Think 4TB+…

I get these logs all the time:

What does this mean?

I am also having trouble with CrashPlan not starting. I have been successfully running v3.7.0 since February, but after recently upgrading the Drobo5n firmware to v3.2.2, CrashPlan is no longer running. I have uninstalled the app via the Drobo dashboard, and then re-installed the 3.7.0 app by copying the crashplan.tgz to the DroboApps folder and restarting. It seems that the app does connect briefly to the CrashPlan server (as seen from the CrashPlan website), but no synchronization occurs, and the CrashPlan service then shows as Stopped within minutes.

Below is the upgrade.log. Could the ‘mv’ command be broken in the latest Drobo firmware?

Cheers,
Jeff

I am also having trouble with CrashPlan not running. I have been successfully running v3.7.0 since February, but after recently upgrading my Drobo 5n to version 3.2.2, the CrashPlan app will not run.

Below is begging of the upgrade.log (I tried to post the entire file, the post gets flagged as span by the forum software). It looks like the ‘mv’ command is not happy.

Cheers,
Jeff

I’ve just unsuccessfully tried to install version 4.2.0. Here is the install.log:

Sorry about that, mate. I re-uploaded the tgz with the correct install script. Mind you, this should not have prevented the update/installation from happening.

Hi Ricardo,

It turns out that I needed to install Java8. I am back in business!

BTW, it looks like the version of the latest install is still showing as 3.7.0 (as seen in version.txt).

Thanks for your great work. I am now a Patron!

Cheers,
Jeff

D’oh! Ok, I fixed it and reuploaded the app. It is just a cosmetic thing, so if you don’t want to re-update you should be fine.

Thank you for your support!
