Can I share a TimeMachine volume from a 5D?

I just got a 5D which is hooked up to a Mini via Thunderbolt. Aside from general storage I want to use the 5D for Time Machine backups for several Macs that I have. Is it possible to have the Mini share the TM volume created on the 5D to other Macs over the network and have TM work properly for those and the Mini as well?

Also, is it possible to create more than one TM volume on the 5D? I’ve been told it’s best to create a separate TM volume for each system that uses TM for backups.

BTW, I figured it out – I needed to setup sparse images files according to support docs and share the Drobo filesystem from the Mini using AFP file sharing protocol. Seems to work reasonably well now.
