2 Nube questions: Slow?

Hi, First time owner of a DroboPro FS here.

Performance seems VERY slow. I realize that’s a relevant term so what is the best way to run a benchmark test so I can know if this is normal or a problem? I’m on a macpro running wired on a gigbit ethernet hub.

I assume that “Shares” are sort of like virtual drives. On the DroboPro FS am I correct that in setup you do NOT specify how big you want each share to be? I saw that you do specify on other Drobo models, but it’s not in the setup software for the Drobopro FS.

thanks in advance.

Transfer speeds should be between 30 to 40 MB/s.

Any share created on the FS, the FS will automatically make it a 16TB share (volume).
Unless you enable Time Machine on that share then you can set a size for that share.

Jennifer, thanks for explaining the size of the shares volume. Now I understand. How can I test transfer speed and be sure I’m in that range or close to it? Thanks in advance.

Are these read/write speeds normal? I ran Xbench on the 16gig Drobopro FS over gigabit ethernet.

Uncached Write 7.38 MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Write 5.96 MB/sec [256K blocks]
Uncached Read 7.64 MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Read 60.70 MB/sec [256K blocks]
Uncached Write 7.38 MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Write 25.45 MB/sec [256K blocks]
Uncached Read 7.48 MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Read 61.90 MB/sec [256K blocks]

Try the AJA Kona System Test.

Enable Network volumes and set File I/0 API to: Unix
Choose 1920x1080 10-bit RGB and 1GB file size

The AJA Kona System test using those settings show:
write: 25.6 MB
read: 40.6 MB

How does this look?

Normal…Quite fast reads actually.
