2 Disk Packs for One DROBO

In the best practices page: http://www.drobo.com/support/best_practices.php

it is stated “many customers will have two sets of disk packs for a single Drobo that they update regularly one onsite and one offsite.”

I would like to find out how I can create a second disk pack? I have a DROBO PRO that is now filled to 11 TB. How do I put this 11 TB on a second disk pack using my current DROBO?

You’d need another place to temporarily store the 11 TB of data you have. Or borrow a Drobo Pro from someone to set up your secondary disk pack.

Actually, I suppose you could copy it in chunks, just like in the old floppy days…

  1. Start Drobo with Disk Pack B (new disk pack) inserted
  2. Create and format volume(s)
  3. Shut down Drobo
  4. Start Drobo with Disk Pack A (your 11 TB) inserted
  5. Copy some data to another drive.
  6. Shut down Drobo
  7. Swap disk pack (all disks) in Drobo with Disk Pack B
  8. Copy data to Drobo
  9. Shut down Drobo
  10. Repeat steps 4-9 until all data on Disk Pack A has been copied to Disk Pack B.
